There are quite a few details that make this work boot stand out from the crowd. For starters, Red Wing designed them using 25% sustainable and recycled materials. The uppers are comprised of 50% discarded plastic bottles, and the midsoles contain renewable sugarcane for cushioning and comfort. 30% recycled rubber also makes up the outsoles.
Then there’s the BOA Fit System. If you’ve never owned a shoe that features this lace-replacement system, it’s an easy concept to grasp. You simply push to engage the system and turn the dial to adjust tighter or looser to a fit that feels right for you. The nice thing about this is that you can adjust each shoe’s fastening separately without having to retie laces to a specific tightness.
Red Wing tells us that these work boots’ lightweight design works best for light-duty applications such as warehousing, manufacturing, and service. If you work on a construction site or another place where your feet need more heavy-duty protection, you’ll want something more rugged.

The Red Wing EcoLite Hiker work boots include a Vibram Litebase outsole, which makes them slip- and abrasion-resistant. The outsoles are also HRO (Heat Resistant Outsole) designated, making them resistant to melting at temperatures up to 475°F.
Additionally, they meet the ASTM safety standard for electrical hazard protection and have an aluminum safety toe.
