Jaylon Ferguson, defensive end for the Ravens, has died. He was 26.

The team announced Ferguson’s passing on Wednesday.

“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson,” the team said in a statement. “He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality. We express our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon’s family and friends as we mourn a life lost much too soon.”

Ferguson was a third-round pick of the Ravens in 2019. He appeared in 38 regular-season games. At Louisiana Tech, he had 45.0 sacks, including 17.5 in his senior year.

We extend our condolences to his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and other colleagues.

Terrible news. He was in a contract year and according to the local media it showed up to camp in incredible shape, some reporters said his body was transformed. Condolences to his family.

Horrible. You’ve barely started living at 26. It sounds as though he was primed for a great year…prayers to his loved ones.

Regardless of cause of death, a 26 year old dying this young is tragic. Feel so sorry for the family, especially Mom.

Geez, most years have only one, or zero, players that pass away. Seems like they’ve had a lot in the last year. Very sad.

As a father of a 26 year old son this hit me hard. RIP. Way to young.

A 26-yr old kid doesn’t just die, there’s more here than that. Short of somebody killing him the only things that adds up is something sudden like a car crash, an undisclosed terminal illness that was kept secret but something like that would influence his play, we’d see the deterioration and then the only other option is he OD’d on something… I’m thinking it will come out it’s the later, young kid with money in his pocket and time on his hands.

My guess will be pericarditis. He had no history of cardiac issues.

It was reported that he showed up to camp in fantastic shape. Part of me wonders if maybe he worked himself to hard. Perhaps to much stress on his heart? It’s also been reported that heat has been a struggle as well.

Either way, it’s sad regardless. I was very excited to support this young man through the upcoming season. I hope his family, friends, and teammates can find closure and peace during this difficult time.
